How do I get and use the Windows Media Video 9 Professional codec?

  1. Hello everyone,

I'm experimenting with Windows Media Encoder to produce, well, WMV clips.
Apparently, the codec it's using is Windows Media Video 9. I heard of the
existence of a "Professional" version of the codec. I found some clips that
mention this codec in the properties. Please forgive my ignorance when it
comes to codecs, but how would I get this codec and how would I install it?
Is it already part of Windows Media Player and/or Windows Media Encoder and
I simply need to select it? Do I need to download it? Does it comes with a
commercial version of WMP or WME (I use free versions of both)? Also, does
the Windows Media Video 9 Professional codec give better results than the
non-Professional version? Would someone using WMP9 with the default codecs
be able to play such clips?

    Thank you for your help.

    Francois
