I've been shooting my travels with a SonyTRV 30 DV camcorder for about
    3 years.

There's quite a bit of footage and I'd like to start editing it,
probably into 30 minute documentaries for a family audience.

What's the best way to spend my money?

Mac or PC? Adobe Premiere or FinalCut Pro?

I'm interested in what people think the ideal setup is for this
    budget.

    Thanks,

If you have a computer now (since I'm reading this, I suspect that's
very possibly the case...) and use anything you think might be useful
in making anything related to these pieces, (Photoshop, any 3D stuff,
anything like that) consider staying with whatever platform you're
using now. Get a new machine, keep it pretty clean (no games or other
    clutter) and enjoy.
