How to deal with a broken MiniDV tape?

Discussion in 'Amateur Video Production' started by Paul Marshall, Dec 16, 2003.

  1. Hey again RVDers.

I managed to have the tape extracted from my camera (which is now FUBAR) and
I am seeking ways to get it re-spliced.

I mentioned this before and someone suggested using a shell of another tape
but I tried this and it's very difficult to get the tape back together again
with the wee springs and catches and stuff.

Is there any recommended splicing kit that can be used? or a recommended way
of dealing with a broken tape. I really only need one pass at it to get the
material onto my HD and then I can dump the contents back off onto another
    tape.

    TIA

    Regards

    Paul

  2. Even the professionals don't actually disassemble the
shell. They pull the tape out and splice it. Be sure to
use REAL magtape splicing tape. "Conventional" office
sticky tape will likely kill whatever you attempt to
play it on! Consider sending to a professional (if it is
    worth the expense?)
