How to import video file (Windows) into iMovie (Mac)??

Discussion in 'Amateur Video Production' started by Michael Volow, Nov 28, 2003.

  1. I edited the receptiion for a wedding in Pinnacle Studion 8 on my PC and
rendered it to an .avi file. My son edited the reception on his MAC in
iMovie and renderd it to a DVD. We would like to get both parts of the
wedding on one machine to combine them. How do we do this? Studio cannot
create Quicktime (.mov) files. iMovie cannot create .avi files

I also have Vegas 4.0 which can create .mov files but it needs Quicktime. I
downloaded Quicktime Pro and converted the .avi file to a .mov file, but it
seems to be a small file meant for streaming, and not a full quality file.
Should I have instead have rendered my Pinnacle file to an mpeg2?

    Thanks in advance.

This is the most obvious choice.

If you're using iMovie then you must be working with DV video files. I
remember recently trying to read Dv-formatted AVI files in iMovie, I don't
recall if it worked or not. (I know that eventually I got something to work
but it took ages to re-encode)

Try telling QuickTime on Windows to save it as a QuickTime DV file.

  4. Coming out of Premiere 6.5 would give you this option, to save as a
    quicktime DV file.
