How to rip RealAudio without installing RealPlayer- 3rd party progs?

    Hi-

I am wondering if there's a prog that'll rip realaudio streams without
installing realplayer. That program is such bloatware and terrible
that I'll use it once to listen to something and uninstall it.

I'd prefer something I can keep that doesn't completely try to take
    over my computer.

Any pointers appreciated...Right now i'm checking out Streambox but
unsure if they want me to install realplayer to get the codec in
    there..

    Cheers and thanks!

Recording a STREAM and ripping a FILE are two different
situations. I don't know of any software that will open (or
even convert) a RA file. Cool Edit 2000 would save
directly as RealAudio, but CEP (and now Adobe Auditon)
have no apparent direct Real format support.

I record/convert by simply playing with the Real Player
(the only way I know of decoding Real media), and then
recording (in real time) on the same machine. I have a
bunch of RA files that I am converting to MP3. I must say
that the RA files are smaller and higher quality than their
    equivalent (converted) MP3 format.
I've always used the free versions because I'm as turned off
by Real as Mr. Dude is. Anybody know if the "premium"
    versions are less intrusive?
I don't believe the "codec" for RealAudio (or RealVideo)
is available as a standalone module. I think Real Networks
does this intentionally. The reason they can give away for free
such a sophisticated (and progressively improved) product is
by selling advertising that is displayed on the players.

    Good point.

I'm surprised the RA codec hasn't been reverse engineered yet...I know
all about adobe aud., etc ) for ripping stuff but that requires me to
install Real (which is exactly what i'd *prefer* to avoid).

I've asked this same question in like 1998 so I'm thinking its not
    possible..but i'll try streambox...still gotta install that..along
with 5 million other things :)

    Oh its definitely intentional :)

    bastards

    Thanks for the 411.

Trialware EOVideo from http://www.eo-video.com/ can import and convert Real
    formats.

I think you'll need the Real codecs installed too though, but Real
Alternative as mentioned may be adequate.
