HP ScanJet 3530C - buttons dont work even though they are software enabled

    Hi

    Just installed my new 3530C.

    No matter what I have tried I cannot get any of the four front panel buttons
    to work.

    I have read the help files and double checked that the event properties are
    enabled from control panel.

    I even uninstalled and re-installed the software and drivers.

    It all works from software but I cannot enjoy the convenience of using the
    single press buttons.

    Any suggestions what else I can try? Has anyone else had this problem?

    Have the same problem with the 3500c using win98se. The only difference is
    the buttons will work "one time" and then not again until reboot. Called HP
    went through the hoops as you did. No avail. HP then sent me a new scanner
    still no luck. Had a friend of mine who is a certified MS guy tried for two
    hours still no luck. We came to the conclusion that I have a software glitch
    with my installed programs that is preventing this and the only way to fix
    it is a clean install.IMHO. It's been about a year since it has been done so
    it might be time. One other thing I install a lot of software (free trials
    etc.) and remove them if I don't like them and I may be my own worst enemy.

    Thanks for replying.

    Oh well at least I'm not the only one with this problem!

    I came to the same conclusion that there must be a conflict the some other
    software. The only thing is I am installing it to a squeaky clean fresh
    install of XP pro. I have no intention of removing anything I've installed
    so far as I've only got things on my system that I use and need.

    I used to think very highly of HP but now less so. It seems like HP are
    becoming just like so many other companies - releasing software that hasn't
    been fully tested in the field! So we end up with products that cant
    function fully.

    On another matter but similar note - I have a friend with an HP all in one.
    No matter what he or I have tried we cant get the darned thing to work at
    all on his new Mac. It supposed to be MAC compatible. However it works
    fine under Windows.

    Come on HP - we used to think we could rely on you.

    I'm not sure I have ever used the buttons, because I would rather have
    more control over what I am doing. Neither was I aware of the Control
    Panel applet - until I looked just now. Have you been into the HP
    Director application, and from the Settings menu selected "Button
    Settings"? This looks rather different to the Control Panel, and only
    seems to cater for two of the four buttons, but you could see if it
    gets you going better.
