HP4C Paperport 3 on Windows XP

Discussion in 'Scanners' started by Geoff Lambert, Feb 13, 2004.

  1. I have been using a package of Paperport v3 and Deskscan 2.9 with a HP
4C scanner for many years now. The package has been successfully
upgraded through Win3.11->Win-95->Win98. Now however, on upgrading to
Windows XP, PaperPort3 (but nothing else) crashes with a Page
Protection Fault in "unknown module" whenever I try to do anything
with the software (Scan, Import, Print). The software installed
correctly and loads OK, it just won't do anything without crashing.
Other TWAIN compliant software, e.g. Photoshop works without crashing
and I can scan using it O.K.

Does anyone know of a fix for this?

I realise I am asking for a bit much, I probably should upgrade
PaperPort to the most recent version, but I rather like some of the
features of PaperPort3- Autostraighten, Cleanpage, Stack images,
desktop etc. Upgrading also costs money and the software seems hard to
    get in this country (Australia).

    Thanks

  2. For XP you'll need Paperport 8 or newer. 7 doesn't even work right in XP,
    thus I can't imagine upgrading 3!

  4. Thanks, that's what I did eventually, PPort 9 retained all of the
PPort3 features I wanted. It proved easy to find in local retail
store, although the staff didn't have the foggiest notion of what it
    was.

    Thanks to those who replied
