As a former Leica owner I hope that Leica survives as well. The digital
back may be something that keeps current Leica R owners from jumping ship.
I doubt however that the digital back will grow the brand, as Nikon, Canon,
Kodak and Fuji already have in production digital cameras with higher pixel
    count sensors.

  3. Unfortunately, it's for their SLR line, which makes it IMHO a complete
waste of time. What's desirable and exceptional about Leica is the
    rangefinder format.

Many of their SLR lenses are extremely good. There are aspects of
rangefinders that are less than desirable for some kinds of shooting,
    but perfect on SLR.

Having said that, the Leica SLR's are about 10 years behind everyone
else's SLR's (but nothing to sneeze at and fine for digital).

    Cheers,
    Alan,
