I think that the tide has turned....

    Hey all,

I popped along to Floriade yesterday, to grab some piccies of the flowers,
as did quite a few thousand other Canberrans and tourists. There were two
    things that really grabbed me:

    1) As I was walking around with my fairly large camera gear (compared to
the average Joe), which comprises D30 with grip, -055 tripod, 70-200L,
50/1.8 and 24-85, people would look at what I was doing. When I then picked
up the tripod, people would go to the same spot I was, and look for the same
image. My girlfriend noticed this phenomenon too. I find it particularly
strange as I don't think I took a single decent image all day. The light
sucked, the displays weren't great, and I am better at action photography
    than being creative.

    2) ...and this is where the tide has turned. I believe that at least 70% of
the cameras that people were using, were digital. Only a few DSLRs
(including a few 300D's, which isn't bad considering they were available
from Fri), and an amazing number of other P&S digis. This is a mammoth
change from last year, when most of the cameras were film P&S's. (it is
probably a good thing that people aren't paying for processing after they
see how poor their photos are from copying my bad shooting day :)

If it was me I would have got on the ground, rolled around, sreamed woohoo
and made people think I was getting photos that no person has even been able
    to.
