Image from DVcam has vertical banding, any way to get rid of it?

I finally did the transfer to my Digital8 camcorder that I've mentioned in a
    couple of other threads.

This is a 30-minute program of a musical performance that was done for a
local cable TV station. I notice that on certain camera angles, there's a
light but noticeable vertical banding that's particularly visible against
certain backgrounds. I assume there were issues with some of the cameras,
I'm sure it's not an artifact caused by my cam because it's also visible on
a VHS copy the studio made for my friend. That and it's only there on
certain shots from certain cameras, not there on others.

Anyone familiar with what causes this? Other than intentionally degrading
the image, is there anything that can be done to eliminate it?

    Thanks for all shared wisdom.

Could be dirty heads and/or low quality tape.
