Incorrect Epson scanner identification

Discussion in 'Scanners' started by Felix Karpfen, Mar 31, 2007.

  1. I purchased an Epson 3590 photo-scanner when I started
on my photo-scanning project (about 15 months ago) and use it routinely,
in conjunction with VueScan in a Linux O/S. More often than not, VueScan
identifies the scanner correctly and everything works great.

But every now and then VueScan identifies it as an Epson 3490
photo-scanner. Both scanners have the same product ID; they differ in the
way in which the film-strip is loaded into the scanner and the 3590
scanner will not make films-scans when identified as an Epson 3490
    (flatbed scans still work perfectly).

The incorrect identification arrives out of the blue and disappears in the
same manner - leaving me totally baffled.

All advice/suggestions will be gratefully received.

  2. Have you reported this to Ed Hamrick (Vuescan). Contact details are on
the Vuescan webpages? He is normally pretty good in fixing problems once
he is aware of them (he solved a couple of problems I had).

  3. I have not.

He has been very helpful whenever I sent a query that related to a VueScan
    problem.

My instinct is that this is either an Epson problem or something on my
computer. My posting was a check to see if anyone else has encountered
    the same problem.

I noted that there is a "vuescan" newsgroup and I sent the query to it as
well - just in case. :).

Thank you for the prompt reply to my query.
