    Hi

    I just received a Minolta XG1 camera.
The battery compartment is empty, I need to know what battery model is
    required .
Is battery required to fire the curtain ?

The film advance crank looks non operating, I wonder if only new
battery are required, or if this is a common defect

What is the function of the slotted head under the film advance
sproket, Is it for a motor ?

    Thanks in advance

This camera uses 2 s76 silver oxide batteries.

As I recall, this camera does require batteries to operate the
    shutter.
I have a pdf manual for this camera on my website. Go to
    http://www.colyngoodson.com/manuals.htm and click on Minolta.

    This is a free download..
