Inserting g=text onto a pic??

Discussion in 'Photoshop Tutorials' started by Licensed to Quill, Aug 6, 2003.

  1. Anyone know what I am doing wrong? I am trying to insert text in black on a
white part of a jpg (then change the typeface, which cant be all that
    difficult?)

I thought I had made a new layer, thought I had pressed the T button,
thought I had inserted the text where I wanted it and when I didn't see
anything there I thought I had pressed the tick command

    Nothing happened???

Don't mind even inserting it onto the basic layer but cant even figure out
    how to do THIS???

    It's not difficult

select type tool click anywhere on your image layer and a new type layer
will be created automaticaly, check font, size & colour and type.

  3. I did what I thought was exactly that and as I mention nothing appeared on
the page when I typed: I went to the HELP section and it said that the
changes I had made (or presumably additions to the page or layer) would not
take effect until I checked the tick mark on the toolbar and I did that but
still nothing appears? What did I do wrong?

  4. As far as I can see there is only one layer although I did press a button
which said that I was creating a new layer and am trying to write in that
layer? Or on the original and then save it as a different file if that makes
    things any easier?

If it is not, then it could be hidden by one above it.

I dont THINK that this is the case

Is your text color something other than white (or whatever
    the background is)?

Nothing I do can make the text show: Not changing colours nor making the
background black nor retaining it as white (which is the document's
background colour) Perhaps I am just typing in white on white but I cant
see how to change that in the unlikely event that this is the case

Curiously though, the app does seemto be taking the instruction to mark text
on the document and does move from one position to the next as I type???
Is your image mode set properly? Layer mode normal?

Hire someone to do it for you.

You should not be using graphic software.

It is not extreme to me. It is a valid point of view. He should not be
using graphic software, it is beyond his ability.

If he can't understand how to use type in a graphic, then he should give up
and do something else. He read the manual and still could not do it.

    He should just give up.

Newsgroups can be used in many different ways, does not mean that I have to
go along with silly people in their desire to use newsgroups as a library or
    a school.

    Not possible in a newsgroup.

How "demoralised" someone might feel is totally up to them.

  8. Hi Bruce

I did in fact try your suggestion yesterday but it didn't help: I don't know
what was causing the program to default to a non-appearing colour but that
    is apparently what happened

I DID manage to get a type palette to appear on the screen and could see
there that no colour was actually selected. SO I selected black and suddenly
everything started appearing easily on the screen with everything easily
    manageable

    Many thanks again
