IrfanView: 'tagging' ?

Discussion in 'Digital Cameras' started by Terry Pinnell, Nov 11, 2011.

  1. After BeAr pointed out an important IrfanView hotkey I hadn't known about,
in a recent thread, I've today been taking a closer look at Help. I'm
probably being dense, but can someone explain what is meant by 'tag' in
the context of this pair of hotkeys please:

X Browsing (window or fullscreen mode): tag current file

SHIFT + Q Browsing (window or fullscreen mode): show tagged files in
    Thumbnails window

Note: Neither Tag nor Tagging appears in the Index. (Nor Browse or
Browsing for that matter. I assume that just means opening an image and
then using arrow keys to browse through other images in the same folder?)

I turned hopefully to Search, but although there are some hits, I'm still
unclear how to use this feature.

    [Tagging in IrfanView: x / Shift+q]
When you have a folder with lots of images, you can browse through
them one after another in the main IrfanView window (preferably
full screen) by hitting Space/Back keys. In this situation, you
may wish to *select* a couple of images (out of the whole lot) for
later operation, like copy, create panorama or contact sheet,...

The x key lets you *select* images, meaning: they get an invisible
tag only valid throughout the current IrfanView session. When you
think you're done (all required images are tagged), you hit Shift+q
and the thumbnail browser opens with only /those/ images selected,
    that you had tagged earlier.

Please note: Only f-ups to acf are read.
