I need to buy some mini DV tapes. Our local store carries dvc tapes,
are those that same as dv tapes? Is dvc short for digital video
    casset? thanks.

  2. Your guess is likely even better than ours because you have actualy
    seen these things.

OTOH, if you want to actually reveal a brand name and model number,
it would be easy enough for us (or even you) to look it up.

Note however, that using random DV tapes is not necessarily a good
idea. Many of us buy a partiular brand (and even model) and stick with
it. You can get very decent, name-brand tapes for very good prices by
ordering them in cases (5 tapes) from reputable dealers.

Yes, I've heard the tales of iternerant world-travelling documentary
makers relying on local supplies and finding their favorite brand in
a little dusty "Kiosk" in Mwanza, Tanzania, but I've never been that lucky.

DVC does mean that, but there are larger ones that came out some years ago
with that label also, so you have to make sure they are labeled minDV.

Yes but I have seen some that are labeled "Mini DV DVC" I see lots of
them on ebay in bulk, but can't physically see there size.

I mean if they are not labeled as miniDV then don't bother getting them.
Regular DVC are about twice the size.
And if you are serious about shooting quality video then do NOT get lower
grade ones. After using a few Sony "Premium" tapes I learned my lesson. You
can buy those at Best Buy for about $15 for a pack of 3 or 4. I personally
    buy the Sony Excellence.
I bought about 50 of them 2 years ago for about $7 a piece online. In Best
Buy there were selling nearly double that price.

You can also get the IC Excellence tapes which cost even more, that add a
memory chip for compatible cameras that allow you to add in chapter or index
    points to make editing easier.
