For capturing video can I use USB 2.0 or should I get a firewire cable. If
    so why?

I tried Windows movie maker and it recorded my movie upside down. So I
downloaded the trial of Ulead Video Studio 7.

I will tinker with that later. But I do I have firewire inputs if it will
    make a difference.

Basically I want to clear off some of my video off the DV tapes and put them
on cd. Hopefully my DVD player plays VCDs. Is that a common format?

    Thanks,
    Phil

You will degrade the video measurably with more compression if you do
    that.
