Kodak EasyShare 4.0 now available

  1. I know that a bunch of people on this group have asked me in the past to
notify them when the new version of EasyShare software becomes available.
We released on our web site this morning Kodak EasyShare software V4.0.

    What's included:

    - much tighter integration with Ofoto including a new express upload feature
that allows you to upload entire albums from EasyShare and to keep track of
changes on the desktop that can then be propagated to the Ofoto service with
the touch of a button. If you add pictures to an album that has been
uploaded, the next time you update the album only those picutres that have
been added will be uploaded. Your Ofoto username and password are
remembered so you only need to supply it once and all subsequent interaction
with ofoto is seamless (where ofoto service is available)

    - Ofoto powered email - instead of sending your photos as attachments, your
recipients will now get an invitation to view your pictures on a secure
location on Ofoto. This eliminates the worries about email not getting
through due to ISP email limits and allows your recipients with dialup
connections to not have to download all of the pictures to view them.
    (where Ofoto service is available)

    - increased support for Burn CD through the integration of Sonic's burn
engine. Many more CD-R/RW drives will be supported with this release.

    - Much more "album centric" in the design of the software

    - Windows standard selection mechanisms for selecting single and multiple
    images

    - drag and drop support from EasyShare to other applications

    - the ability to re-arrangephotos within an album

And of course, a littany of bugs that have been reported here and elsewhere
have been fixed. Good news for the DriveImage7 guys that reported the
incompatibility on this forum: this issue has been resolved in this
    release.

As always, this is a free download from Kodak.com. If you have the
automatic updater service enalbed, Kodak will start spooling updates on the
    17th of this month.

    go here to get it:

I've answered this question time and time again. It's a function of

    (1) we used to do this and found that for the vast majority of our customers
the install-from-web solution was much preferred and in fact generated
significantly fewer calls to Kodak for help, generally around "I downloaded
the file, now where is it"

    and

    (2) I only have the resources to deliver one download option. If I had the
resources (ie: people, time and budget) I would certainly deliver both. But
I only have enough for one. It's still something that I'd like to get done,
and in fact we've been considering an ISO image of the CD for people who
want to download once and burn the disc. (but that has a licensing problem
with one of the third party software providers that is on the disc and not
    on the download)

Alas, the answer is not simple. For now, we're still doing the install from
    web

  5. where are you?

any chance your browser had cached the old pages. The download link/page
would have said "download version 4" before you started.

I wonder why that is? I deleted 3.4.0.71 rebooted and let Kodak install the
?newer version. It still says 3.4.0.71.

  7. If you can't make it available as a complete download, why can you not
make it available as a cd (a lot of people would probably not mind even
having to pay a reasonable price for it , 5 to 10 dollars say) ????? I
still think you could also make it available as a complete download
though. I routinely download 10 to 20MB files via dialup for several of
my other software packages. I beleive Kodak's reasoning is a copeout at
the very least. I have uninstall all of the package except for the usb
connectivity to the Dock and will not even consider the upgrade to 4.0
until Kodak either provides a complete download that I can easily
reinstall it incase of a computer malfunction or provides a purchasable
    upgrade CD/DVD.

  8. there is a purchaseable CD. I think it's $7.95 last I looked.

They don't have them yet, so the V4. CD may not be on the web site, they
went out to manufacturing last week and should be in early next week.

the size isn't really the issue. I'd even be willing to put a 50MB download
up if I could get you guys to stop yelling at me..;-)
You don't run a consumer software organization then. The work is not in the
engineering to get it done, that's the easy part. The hard part is in the
deployment and QA groups to build installers, test and verify things like
overinstall from one version to another on 5 versions of Windows in 10
languages. The testing matrix can get out of hand very quickly . The cost
is not insignificant, I can assure you of that.

I'm given a limited amount of money to spend on this project every year.
With that, I try to satisfy as many of our customers' needs as I can. since
I can only afford one and given the past history of having a download and
the resultant call center volume, we have chosen to have only the
    install-from-web solution.

More money, this might make it. But remember, it's not a one-time charge.
I have to do the extra work for every release of software.

On Stardate 8/3/2004 11:29 AM, the following keys were mysteriously
    typed at William Jackson's keyboard...
Hmmm ... how about this ... can I do this with EasyShare 4.0?

I had previously created albums on Ofoto. Now, I want to add a photo (or
several photos) to the previously created album. Can I do this in
EasyShare 4.0? I see how I can create new Ofoto albums with EasyShare
4.0, but that's not what I want to do right now.
