Kodak will no longer make slide projectors

  1. Well, it's likely that Zeiss put all of their slide projector activities in
the Zett Geräte Werk after they bought that company.
And that all Zeiss projector related know-how and machinery ("embedded" in
Zett Werk) went to Leitz (Leica) too when they bought the Zett Geräte Werk
(Not Zeiss-Ikon, just the Zett Werk).
That way, Leitz would indeed be the one knowing how to service old Zeiss
    projectors.

Leica (Leitz) started a separate firm in 1990, Leica Projektion GmbH,
dedicated to building slideprojectors. The same year that they bought the
Zett Werk from Zeiss-Ikon. No coincidence. ;-) This Leica Projektion GmbH
    still exists today.
So yes, Leitz (now Leica) owns a business that builds projectors, and that
    includes/is the former Zett Werk.
And no, they therefore do not (have to) "contract out".
If slideprojectors are doomed (and i firmly believe they are), a Leica firm
    will suffer...
