Konica-Minolta Dynax 5D anywhere?

Discussion in 'Minolta' started by Bob Milutinovic, Jun 5, 2006.

  1. G'day, folks.

Just wondering if anyone here knew of a retailer/dealer anywhere in
Australia, who might still have a Konica-Minolta Dynax 5D in stock (and
    obviously for sale).

I've been wanting this camera for over six months, but now that I've finally
got the $$$ together, Sony went 'n stuffed things up for me.

If anyone knows of where I could get one, _please_ reply to me here or by
e-mail to bob (at) cognicom (dot) tk

    Thanks.

Did Sony stuff things up? ...it seems that they have made a few refinements
to the Alpha. You wouldn't consider one of the new breed?

    Hi Bob,

I know people at KM so will ask for you. I'll let you know if I can find
    one of these (lovely) babies.

    Cheers and fingers crossed eh?

  5. Thanks for the link, and yes, I've already got that item marked "watched" on
    eBay.

I'm a little reticent about getting anything "refurbished," though I suppose
if nothing else comes to the fore, it'll have to be the shot.

  6. The Alpha certainly seems appealing, but I've yet to see Sony move away from
the image I have in my mind of their photographic equipment - very harsh,
overprocessed images from every one of their cameras I've experienced thus
far (up to the DSC-F828; I haven't tried the DSC-R1).

I can only hope that they've taken Konica-Minolta's electronics into the
equation for the Alpha, but in typical Sony fashion they're ramping up their
marketing machine whilst sidelining the technical aspects.

If they've opted for a full-size CCD in the Alpha, I'll be the first to
order one (notwithstanding the aforementioned processing issue), but it
looks like it'll be a while before we'll see the full specs, let alone have
    any to play with.

  7. Thanks, Dave; would be greatly appreciated.

Needless to say, if you can come through with anything, there'll be a few
pints on tap for ya ;-)

    Hi Bob

There is one on the shelf at Hardly Normal in Grafton NSW. Has a kit lens
on it. 18-35 I think. Has $1299 on the tag. I don't know if it is the only
one in stock, but you should be able to haggle I would say. They have a 7D
    as well.

  11. Erm... Dare I ask, are there any still available at "J&B" at this price?

And while I'm asking, does "J&B" refer to "JB HiFi" or to another retailer I
    can't manage to track down?

  13. Many thanks for your info, Tony; I've managed to track down a stash of five
(I'd assume one of which is a floor display model), but now comes the
arduous task of actually trying to convince the retailer that it's a
discontinued product and shouldn't be sold for RRP. Argh!

I don't suppose there's anyone else here interested in one so I can make
them a "deal for two" offer?

I re-checked J&B HiFi and also a couple of other stores in Perth. No
    luck I am afraid :(

  15. Thanks for trying anyway.

I've now got my hands on potentially two cameras. Just have to wait a couple
of more days for one to become available.

Thanks to all who replied and offered assistance; never let it be said that
    enthusiasts don't stick together :)

    I hate to gloat Bob, but I picked up a 5D w/18-70, and a 75-300 from
Hardly Normal back in January/February IIRC. Actually, it was a day or so
after they announced their sell-out to Sony. I was lucky enough to have
the money then. When you do get yours, I think you'll be well pleased
with it. I wouldn't give mine up for love or money.

I had been waiting for the planned bundle (a KM deal) package of both the
aforementioned lenses and body, but the sell-off announcement came before
the bundle. Interestingly, I had to ask the sales person about the bigger
zoom. They 'had a look out the back' and came back with the lens at a
price of $150. I have my suspicions that the bundle deal was going to
happen and that the dealers already had the stock, because the total
price matched the 'bundle' RRP and everything packed quite neatly into
    the original packaging.

I ended up with the camera, both lenses, a 1gig SanDisk Ultra2 CF card,
two batteries and a filter for about $1800 (w/extended warranty).

BTW, if I had the money now, I'd definitely jump in with you and do a
deal on a second one for sure.

    Cheers,
    Gryph
