    hi there,
I'd like to know if it's possible to use a laptop (I have a IEEE1394 and
some USB2 input ports) as a monitor for my camcorder (sony HDR-FX1E)
    while shooting.
    thank you

You possibly could use your laptop as a monitoring device in one of a
couple of ways. I've not actually used an HDR-FX1 so bear with me if
these suggestions don't work with your camera. Firstly have you tried
taking your IEEE1394 output from the camera into the laptop and
attempting to preview the digital capture on your editing software, not
sure if this will work but worth a try, how you actually do this
depends on what software you're uisng. Secondly if you want to simple
take an analogue output from your camera, eg S-video then you'l need to
purchase and A/D (analogue to digital) converter and this should fit to
either USB 2 or IEEE1394 easily, remember if you use this route to
check if the hardware you purchase is compatible with you're system
(depending on wheter you're on Mac or PC).

    Hope this helps, Matt
