lens adapters

  1. Got a question - I've recently bought a camera that supposedly came
with lenses. The camera takes the infamous x-fujinon lenses (which is
why I bought it - I have some of those and another x-fujinon camera -
the one I started with). The lenses, however, aren't x-fujinon and,
after some research I have found that they have Pentax P/K bayonet
    mounts.

I already have a camera body that takes M42 mounts lenses, so now I
have three different lens types. So, I'm wondering if it's possible to
connect any of these lenses to by M42 body, either the M42s or this P/K
Bayonet. Does anyone know of an adapter that will do the job or, better
still, a shop that stocks every body/lens adapter in existence?

    tia,

I don't think rec.photo.darkroom is the best place for this question. You
might want to post to rec.photo.equipment.35mm (if it's active; I just see
the name in my list at the moment).

That said, the short answer is that most lens-to-body adapters will
degrade the image quality, either because they won't permit infinity focus
or because they'll include optical elements to compensate. Your best bets
are to return the camera/lens package to the seller for a refund or to
sell the K-mount lenses separately (on eBay or to a local dealer). You can
then use the funds to buy new X-Fujinon, M42, or Tamron Adaptall lenses.
(The Adaptalls are designed to use adapters to mount to a wide variety of
bodies, so they're very handy if you have cameras with multiple mount
    types.)

As to adapter sources, B&H (http://www.bhphotovideo.com) has a wide
selection of adapters, including one (with optics) to mount K-mount lenses
on M42 bodies (but it's back-ordered). I know there's at least one place
on the Web with an even wider selection, but I lost the bookmark a few
    weeks ago. :-(

No. You can not go from a bayonet to a screw thread body as the adapter
to do so will add thickness and you could only use it to do macro and
    close up work.

You can adapt Pentax screw mount lenses to Pentak K mount with full
automation and no loss of infinity focus. Novoflex probably has the most
adapters to convert lens/camera combinations. Check their web site
    www.novoflex.de.

Wrong. Absolutely wrong. Couldn't be more wrong.

You can get adapters to go from and to all sorts of mounts. As Rod
points out these adapters compensate for any differential in focal
    depth by providing corrective lenses.

Thanks Rod - I did find one on B&H (I go there frequently - best photo
store in the continental US). As for the wrong forum, I did try to post
on rec.photo.35mm which would have been ideal except that it's archival
only. I will look at rec.photo.equipment.35mm - thanks for the
    recommend.
