I got one of the i-gotU devices from Maplins last week.

This is a little GPS unit that logs its position periodically and then
these can be used to place photographs taken on a map from the time they
were taken. These can be exported in standard GPS formats.

It has its uses but I would really like to also permanently add the
position to the image in the EXIF. I am sure I saw a program that did this
some years ago so wonder if anyone has any experience of different
    programs.

I have a gps logger on order. I intend to use a program called exiftool
http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/ to plug the data into the
exif fields. Exiftool basically reads or writes metadata so I'll probably
wrap it up in a script to read the time stamp in the exif data, match it
against a time stamp in the file from the data logger and then write the
location data into the relevant exif fields.

Or, after a click or two on the exiftool website, it has already been done

A couple of programs have been recommended to me - RoboGEO which looks very
good and also free program GeoSetter.

GeoSetter works fine for adding location from the map to the EXIF but I
can't how it can be done automatically from the GPS track. There is a
screen shot in the help file which seems to suggest that it can be done but
    I can't find how!

I wonder if anyone has any experience with GeoSetter?

  4. Following this thread, I dl geosetter, I have used it to sync data from my
Etrex to photos, I use easygps to dl gpx files from the Etrex, then in
geosetter , from the image menu, I use the sync with gps data function &
point it at the gpx file, not quite intuitive as you might hope, but once
you get the hang it works fine.

I found how to do it later, the button is there OK just had not found
    before.

I went through a few folders of pictures using tracks from the i-gotU and
the map for many. Still considering registering RoboGEO and using that.
