Konica Minolta Z3 second hand, 4mp and you get Anti-Shake technology. Or you
    can get a new Z5 for £300 ish I think ;)

I've had one for over a year and for what it does it's awesome. I bought
    mine new ;)

If you get the extension tube (Jessops £15 ish) then you can fit filters as
well. Which is also good when you "accidentally" knock the power button at
the back... As the camera will extend the lens from its sheath. The tube
    protects it as well.

There are a few minolta groups as well. Dyxum.com is a webforum primarily
for Digital SLRs but they're a helpful bunch so they'll normally help if
    they can :)

Don't be scared off by Konica Minolta finishing with cameras as such, as
there will still be lots of them around. I've not long bought a KM 5D
    anyway ;)

Change your mind on AA battery. In the long run it costs you more than
Li-Ion batteries with much more power.

    Try Panasonic digital cameras.

You can get Li-Ion AA batteries, cheaper (usually) than purpose built

Umm..rechargeable batteries. My Canon S2 IS came with AA batts. I never even
put them in the camera, I got some NiMh rechargeables.

In an emergency, you can go into about any store and get some AA's.

Try the Canon A540. You should be able to get it for your target price by
    shopping around on the net.
