looking for info on Temporal and Spatial filters

I have an Adstech DVD Xpress capture device. When capturing old video
tape footage to convert to DVD/VCD, it says to adjust the spatial and
temporal filtering. The temporal filtering can go to 255, and the
spatial filtering can go to 7. Both use a adjustment tool to slide up
and down. When trying to capture an old video tape, there are times
when the thing goes haywire a bit, and the capturing pauses here and
there, rendering a very poor piece of footage.

Anyone out there have any idea what would be a good setting with these
filters? The folks at Adstech have not replied to my email asking
advice, and i sent the email over a week ago.

    thanks for any help!
