miniDV VCR/Player? Playback device for computer?

Discussion in 'Amateur Video Production' started by Scott Townsend, Dec 30, 2003.

  1. I'm looking to get something that I can connect to the computer to
playback my MiniDV Tapes similar to the way my Sony MiniDV Camera
    Does.

I'd like to be able to use something other then the camera that I can
leave connected to the computer all the time. I'd rather not have to
use the Camera each time I want to transfer video from tapes to the
    PC.

I dont really need it to be a self contained player with screen. I
just need to to be able to transfer the tape to the PC via Firewire.

Any Suggestions or info would be appreciated.

    Thankd,
    Scott<-

    Hi Scott,

I've been using the JVC HR-DVS3EK for almost a year now. It's got a miniDV
deck and an SVHS deck, so It's perfect for your need. It's got firewire
in/out and can make automatic copies of two tapes between the two decks as
    well edit between them.

It's been very reliable and has been a boon when I have wanted to copy from
(S)VHS to miniDV for editing on my PC. It would also be ideal for producing
copies for distribution on (S)VHS using a miniDV master instead of going
    down the DVD route.

Quality is as you would expect from a top manufacturer.

    HTH,

    Bob

A local studio bought a couple of $350 miniDV camcorders and leaves them
hooked up to the editing PCs as decks. Cheaper than a miniDV deck,
    works great.

  6. I was thinking the same thing. Seems like I've seen some deal on
miniDV Camers with no Frills features for about $300-$400... Seems to
be much cheaper then the $800-$2000 Deck's I've seen.

    Just need to be sure the miniDV Camers supports Firewire.. (-;

    Thanks,
    Scott<-
