Minolta lens compatibility?

I've recently purchased a 3000i, and I've got the old zoom lens handed down
from my mom's now ruined 300si. I was wondering if they're fully
compatible, and if not, what are the incompatibility issues?

The item in question is a 35-70mm f3.5-4.5 lens, sold standard with the
300si, I believe. Either way, it is mentioned as the "optional lens kit" in
the back of the 300si manual, page 40.

It's not much of a problem for me to grab another lens if they're not
compatible. I haven't tried the lens itself, as we haven't been able to
locate the box it's in quite yet. She does say it's mine once we locate it.
It's the only thing she saved from the 300si, except for the book and the
camera case, which should fit the 3000i nicely. The book is all we have
found thus far. Going through the old boxes and stuff is murder on the
    back.

    Any help appreciated. Thanks.
