Can anyone tell me if my old camera uses a linear or circular
    polarizer filter?

  3. Either one will work fine. If you have an AF camera as well, get a circular
polarizer. Otherwise you may be able to save a few bucks with a linear.
But either is OK with the X-700.

It can use either. But save your money & buy the linear. Circular
polarizers are only required on autofocus cameras.
