MP3 Audio popping in preview and avi export

I don't know why this is happening but it's quite annoying and kind of
renders premiere useless unless it can be resolved!

using prem 6.5 winxp pro sblsater extigy plenty of ram and processor (igb
    DDR, amd 2.6)

Tom, I haven't been able to export mp3's with Prem 6.5 it only exports sound
as .wav files as far as I can see. Try converting them to wav files first.

I have just mixed a cd using premier ( cos i had it and it seemed sensible
rather than buying something else) it works fine.

I'm talking about whilst using mp3s in the timeline in the audio track, the
sound of that mp3 pops in the video, both in preview AND when I export the
entire timeline as, say, wmv or avi.

However converting to WAV does seem to help.

Can you see the pops on the sounds waveform display?

If not, it could be your sound card popping, this can be caused by
latency and resource issues amongst your PCI devices.

Soundblaster is well renowned for pops and clicks in situations like
    this.

Damn, just realised you are using an extigy.. urmm.. ignore that then
and search google groups maybe? :)

You need to find out where the pops are coming from, i.e. try causing
lots of activity on your machine and see if it gets worse, and check
to see if the pops are in the exact same spots when you play the
sounds back.. i.e. is it in the recording?

Seems to be more frequent when there is a lot of rendering to do, - may try
in non real time preview mode!
