I am pulling my hair out figuring how to connect my special projects
SP-5501 shotgun mic with XLR output to my Sony trv900 mic input.

I have a beachtech box, but only want the extra weight when I have
    more than one mic input.

I want to go straight from my camera mounted shotgun to the 3.5mm mic
    in.

I know sonys have the dc 2.5 volt, mic component. A blocking
capacitor sounds correct in a patch cable like Equipment Emporiums
XLRH8/DV which " Blocks any stray voltage at camcorder input", but at
$40 compared to a simple balanced XLR to (balanced?) 3.5mm for
    $13....I'd rather pat $13.

I only want to buy it if it's necessary and without first trying it I
    can't tell.

Has anyone used a regular cable from an XLR mic to a Sony mic input
    without hum or other problems?

    Any help is apreciated.
