Nero Vision Express 2 DRIVING ME CRAZY!

I have a DVD burner that so far I've only used for playback and
    computer backup.

Now I'm trying a simple project, consolidating several DVDs of home
video onto one DVD, kind of a "best of" type thing, and the software,
Nero Vision Express 2, is driving me nuts.

This should be simple. I easily copied the files off the multiple
DVDs onto my hard drive. Nero easily let me pick which ones I want.
But for the life of me, I can't figure out how to insert a chapter
mark manually (yes, I have the manual; there are no symbols in my Nero
software that match what the manual says should be there for a chapter
mark insertion - any way to turn on TEXT menus with actual ENGLISH
words so I can figure out what to do?).

I feel like I need major handholding here. I have easily sequenced
out all the scenes I want on the DVD. What I'm stuck on is:

    1. Inserting chapter marks.

    2. In a perfect world, I'd like to use the menu thumbnails off the
other DVDs, so I'm not reinventing the wheel. Is this possible? If
not, how do I create a chapter thumbnail and title for the DVD I'm
    working on?

    3. Whatever tips people can offer to me to make this easy. Again, I
am picking and choosing scenes from several DVDs, consolidating them
onto one DVD and ordering them chronologically, and I'm having a devil
of a time making it flow correctly.

    Help! Please!

    1. After you add the files, the Create Chapters option appears. Choose it.
Move the pointer. Add the chapter. What is the problem?
You must use icons. There is no way for text. By the way, if you pause the
mouse over an icon, a text box with explanation appears.
    2. You cannot use tumbnails from another DVD. Express will pick and image
based on where you are in your movie.
    3. You can change the images anywhere in Express. Right click.

    PS

Make absolutely sure you upgrade Express 2 to the very last version offered
    before Express 3 came out.

I did figure this out eventually. But in my special case (I am
starting with DVDs with already-defined "chapters"), it would be a
heck of a lot easier, and more intuitive if, in the "edit" screen, I
could just highlight the video file(s) I'd like for a chapter, right
click, and say "make this a chapter." The present arrangement makes
this much harder, and by inserting chapters for files that already
WERE chapters, I feel like I'm reinventing the wheel [/vent]

    Hmmmm...

I went to the Nero site looking for help, and just dumbly upgraded to
Express 3. Since then, whenever trying to add more than three video
files to my project, I get this error:

    QUOTE ... QUOTE ... QUOTE ... QUOTE ... QUOTE ... QUOTE ...

The instruction at "0x0073df64" referenced memory at "0x018238c0".
The memory could not be read. Click on OK to terminate the program.

    UNQUOTE ... UNQUOTE ... UNQUOTE ... UNQUOTE ... UNQUOTE ...

What the heck is that all about? I saw elsewhere that *perhaps* if I
installed DirectX 9.0c (I had been running 9.0b), this would fix the
    problem. It didn't.

    Help!

You might like the logic of DVD Author, then, since it makes every file a
chapter by default. www.pegasys-inc.com for a trial.
