I'm currently in the middle of shooting and developing black & white
prints which I have added to my gallery. Most are digital on there but
check out the Black & White Photography gallery and let me know what
    you think.

Comments on composition, exposure and post-processing, plus any tips
    would be well received!

But remember that I am still a relative novice when it comes to SLR!

Rather good for a novice! GREAT framing. Bad exposure 8-(

    Example: "Stairs"

The subject is the stairs and while I read what you were trying to do, I
can't see them! Under exposed, while the window is quite nicely exposed. If
the shot were called "Window" it would be great in context. I think you
could have used the same exposure time but open up the aperture by a stop
and you would have gotten more stair detail while maintaining that
    "sinister" look.
Hope this helps  Also remember, monitors vary when looking at photos
on-line. So this might just be a point of monitor calibration and not the
photo. A good way to avoid this problem on-line is to do the thumbnails as
you have been, but instead of opening a larger version in a new browser
window, have it open the photo in a PDF file. The PDF format compensates
very well for differences in system settings.
