    Recently bought my first digital camcorder (Sony PC8E). I want to transfer
    footage onto video CD's - I do not have a DVD burner

    I know (?) that I need a firewire card & some software;

    Dabs have the Lucent 3 port firewire card inc Cyberlink Power Director SE
    for £15 (quicklink 17ZKWS). I seem to recall some good comments about the
    card a few weeks go in the group - can anyone advise re the software.

    My initial requirements are very basic ie get a copy of the footage from the
    tape in the camcorder onto a CD in a format that can be viewed on a PC or
    better still, a DVD player. Guess it would be nice to do some basic editing
    ie remove unwanted shots, but I *think* thats about it

    Will a 466mhz Celeron, 256mb ram be up to this

    Any info appreciated

    Cheers

    I would buy the cheaper version of the card without software, and buy some
    proper editing software instead.
    You are probably on the limit with that spec of PC though.
    With a higher spec PC I would have recommended using Microsoft Movie Maker 2 as
    that is free.
    Look around for a copy of EditStudio 2 - free on many PC magazine cover disks.
    Reasonable editor
