Just ignore him Jerry. Indeed, since he contributes little constructive
in his posts he's a troll. And Laurence seems to be heading in the same
direction judging from his posts in this thread.

And from the pair of them it's laughable that they point the finger at
the lack of enquiries/constructive debate here. This thread is just one
example of their intent to drive people away.

I sat back watching Mitch being attacked for posting a simple question.
I then come in with some answers - and the pair of them can do nothing
but attack me for doing so. THAT's the reason why this newsgroup has
    gone down the pan.

I don't think 'G Hardy' or myself were attacking him, perhaps (to
strongly) questioning his motives / rational for asking for opinions
from people who (as I said later) might not know their white balance
from their iris and not from those who do - or should...

  3. Oh sure, I enjoy teasing Tony. Look at his masterwork:
    He NEEDS teasing :)

I do tend to confine advice to my area of expertise. Though I seem to
remember it taking quite a long time before Tony stopped challenging
me on principle whenever my knowledge clashed with his ignorance :)

    BTW, still maintains:
"Although the minimum cost of a dial-up Internet account is only about
£12 per month and the cost of a full ADSL broadband account starts at
about £25 per month (though there are now some reduced-facility
accounts available at lower cost) - for many households going the
extra mile and going ADSL broadband can work out as cheap as dial-up
when the cost of calls is taken into account. Naturally this depends
on the length of time you and your family spend on-line.

The most significant factor, however, is that once you have paid your
subscription for an ADSL Internet account you pay nothing more no
matter how much time you spend on-line."

This is misleading in so many ways. I've mentioned it before.

Yes, that was the day that you infested this group for the first time

Didn't you just take a pop at Dmitri for reviving long-dead threads?

Yes, and I got slated for suggesting that it's not a good idea, now
why is it OK for Dmitri to do so but not I?...

It's OK for anyone to do it - I was just commenting on the U turn.

Having said that, it's one thing to respond to a long-dead thread with
information that's helpful, or thought to be helpful. It's quite another to
respond with something pointless and inciteful.

It was in no way a U turn, it was highlighting the problem of people
deciding that they should reply to long dead messages that they
either never replied to when current or missed for what ever reason.
But that is what all information to dead threads is, especially if
there is no previous context with the message, considering that most
questions come around again and again (no one seems to bother to do
any of their own research now before posting a question) why not just
wait until the subject is current again?
