Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR

Discussion in 'Digital SLR' started by Michael Schnell, Jun 20, 2010.

  1. It's obvious that this is a very nice lens replacing our 80-200 f2.8 for
better AF speed and for compatibility with the 1.4x tele-converter.

But we did not go for the VR feature, having got bad reports on VR with
    older lenses.

Can you comment on the VR ? Experiences ? When is it viable to use, when
should it be switched off ?

    Thanks,
    -Michael

With VR you have to be specific w.r.t specific lenses. Even though one
now sees VRII specs there were actually many revisions along the way
that were not neccessarily easy to discern without going to the
specifc lens maual or other Nikon web site info. Many of the
differences concerns frequency tuning for tripod use.

My specific experience is with the orginal 70-20mm f/2.8 VR and
    200-400mm F/4 VR.
