Have had this camera for several years. Until today, I had never even seen
the "blurry" icon, telling me that the picture I am about to take may be
    blurry.

As a test, I set the camera down on a table. The blurry icon still
indicates a blurry picture condition. I also find that most, if not all,
    of my pictures are blurry.

Again, I have taken about a thousand pictues with this camera, and have
never had a problem, or never saw this "blurry" icon on my screen before.

Has my camera bit the dust ? Is there anything I can check ?

    Thanks for any help !!

Would it by chance be in MACRO mode?

The icon will only show if a) the feature is turned on in the setup -- I
think it's called blurry mode, but it might be something else; and b) the
camera thinks the pictures might be blurred due to a slow shutter speed.
So, you could simply turn the feature off. But if the pictures really are
blurry, it sounds like you need to increase your shutter speed.

The setup feature might be called Camera Shake -- since that's what it's
attempting to warn you about -- pictures that might be blurred due to camera
shake due to a slow shutter speed.
