Nikon Coolpix 5700 ' lens error ' problem

My Nikon Coolpix 5700 was accidentally switched on in my luggage and the
lens was unable to extend due to confined space.
I'm now getting a ' lens error ' message when I try to switch on the camera
and the lens will not extend in the normal way. There is also a flashing '
error ' message in the viewfinder.
Is this likely to be a serious problem to repair? Has anyone had a similar
    problem with the Coolpix 5700?
I have noticed how easy to inadvertently switch on this camera on a few
    previous occasions.
If this makes it necessary to send the camera back to Nikon, how long do
they normally take to carry out repairs?
I'm living in S.Ireland and will probably have to send the camera back to
the UK where I purchased it
    Any advice appreciated.

I had my CP 950 repaired by Nikon when the focus jammed. They gave me a
price estimate within a few days, and repaired it and got it back to me for
£50 within 2 weeks of sending it to them.
