I like it...Its a very nice camera which takes high quality shots. The only thing better is a pro level SLR digital. My .02
I recently had mine 5700 stolen. and I was not broken-hearted The camera was for me very noisy in the image, I had had Nikon Coolpix 950, 990, & still have a 995, Which seems to me to be less noisy, but a nearly as good image if one accounts resampling the file up to the same size as a 5700. See samples on my image server. The work this year from April up to labour day taken with 5700, earlier work by older Coolpix. Bye Kenne http://public.fotki.com/JustSayYes/
Ultimately, your choice should be whatever camera you personally like the best. If you are not comfortable with a camera it will make a lousy photographic tool, in spite of what everyone else's opinion may be. If you've looked at the 5700 and like it, buy one! OK, with that said here's my opinion... ;-) I own a Nikon 5700 and absolutely love it. The Nikon 5700 has completely redefined the way that I do photography. A bit of a learning curve was required to learn how to properly utilize this camera, but now that my new techniques are in place I find that photography has never been easier or more enjoyable. The 5700 represents a huge step forward in photographic technology. If you're willing to learn a few new things, and let go of some antiquated techniques, the Nikon 5700 is a superb photographic tool for advanced/professional photographers. I got the Coolpix 5700 this past summer and have already taken over 3000 pictures with it. It works great for what I do which is mostly wildlife and a few portrait photography. The only thing better would be a digital SLR but then you have to buy all those expense lens and worry about dust getting on your CCD. Next time you are at a camera store pick up the coolpix and hold it, if it feels right in your hands then get it. http://www.dotphoto.com/go.asp?l=Walden+Photography&AID=1122258 here are just a few pictures taken with my Nikon Coolpix 5700 and a 1.5x teleconverter lens. Good luck
