Nikon Customer Service

  1. Dear All,

I happened to read the page below, by Thom Hogan. I was wondering if any of
you has a long term experience with Nikon products and can express an
opinion on the contents of Thom's page.
I am the owner of two Nikon camera bodies and four lenses, but my experience
with Nikon products is too short to make a comment on their assistance and
    customer service.

I would be grateful if you could have a read and tell me what you think, as
it appears that there are a number of issues causing headaches to the
    Nikon's customers across the Atlantic.

Thank you for your time and effort.

I've skim-read the page - it's a bit long and deep to go into right now
in its entirity. However, an awful lot of it does ring true - Nikon and
customer service in the UK is an oxymoron.

As a professional user of Niknok digital SLRs, I'm less than impressed
by their longevity, reliability and service provided. In October 2001,
my newspaper purchased 12 D1H bodies. We've now been using them just
over 3 years and just about every one has had to have a new shutter at
significant expense. Each service they also seem to come back having
had a new bayonet mount on, too.

Nikon UK's "Pro-Track" service is often appallingly lacking in speed -
the supposed turn-a-round should be 3 working days, but in my
experience unless they are phoned almost daily, this can extend to 2
    weeks - not good enough.

I've also had lenses come back from 'servicing' in a worse state than
when they were sent - a 35-70mm F2.8D came back with the zoom action so
stiff you almost needed to put it into a vice to move it :-(

  4. Quite interesting reading, thank you for your comments. I'll have to send in
one of my cameras before August, when the warranty expire, to take care of a
bit of noise in the autofocus, I'll post a feedback in due course.

    Thank you for now.
