I have a Nikon 401s SLR and am considering buying a Nikon D100.

My question - will the lenses from the 401 fit the D100?

  2. It depends entirely on the lens. They may fit, but at best they won't meter
nor will they autofocus, and they might damage.

Look at http://www.nikonlinks.com/unklbil/bodylens.htm for a compatibility
    chart.

  3. As long as your lenses for the 401 are autofocus lenses they will work.
Manual lenses won't meter. Oh, and i'd consider trading the F401s in- all
film vs. digital gubbins aside, the F401 is comparitively ancient technology
and poor handling. You'll also be forgiven for thinking your lenses have
been turbocharged, as Nikon bodies have an influence on AF speed (and the
F401s is one of Nikon's earlier attempts at an AF system).

Thanks Martin - they were bought with the 401 and are autofocus (although
not Nikkor) - I don't use the 401 any longer - I've started using digital
    cameras exclusively.

Is this typical of Canon owners ?

There seems to be more venom in the replies of Canon owners as compared to
Nikon owners who share a balanced and objective view of their gear.

Probably stems from the fact that Canon owners aspire to Nikon whilst Nikon
owners remember owning a Canon and have traded up

No, this is typical of assholes.
I’ve seen both assholes and decent people from both camps.
Ahh, a Nikon using asshole. No better nor worse than the Canon using
asshole that you are replying to.

I used to have a Nikon, I now have a Canon (10D). The difference? My
Canon is newer and better, if I had bought a Nikon D100 I suspect I would
have been pretty happy with that too.

    Nikon D100 = Good Camera
    Fuji S2 = Good Camera
    Canon 10D = Good Camera

When I bought my Canon 10D I didn’t own any lenses, so I had a free choice
of brands. If I had Nikon lenses then I would probably have bought a D100
    instead.
