Nikon D2x(s) Owners Are Kicking And Screaming!

    it's not a flaw. alkalines generally do not last very long in most
    digicams. try using rechargable batteries instead.

    Obviously you've never tried following your own advice in the circumstances
    I outlined.

    The camera in question ceased to operate when the cells got down to about
    1.2 - 1.3v. Where does that leave rechargables?

    It was a design flaw. (Or maybe "marketing", since they assumed the
    consumer would not mind.)

    actually, i have.
    the issue is how much power the batteries can supply under load.
    alkalines just can't handle the current draw that a digicam requires.
    try a set of nimh aa rechargables and you'll find that you'll get more
    than 20-25 photos.
    it's not a flaw.

    Maybe but it's not very bloody good either. I have a little Vivitar camera
    that I can put in an underwater housing, uses triple As and takes around 60
    shots with alkalines and the same with NiMh Eneloops.

  5. My F5 can take over 1000 shots on a single set of 8 AA lithium's........And
    more, if I rewind the film manually with the little hand crank.........

    Please read before posting.

    The camera in question would not operate with NiCd or NiMH rechargables. It
    required greater than 1.2v to turn on. Alkaline or Lithium were the only
    choices - and top brand alkalines lasted about 20 shots.

    This was a design flaw.

    Thankfully this was many years ago, when P&S digitals were still novelties.

    Do you seriously think that alkalines cannot handle the current requirements
    of a competently designed camera? How come I usually get 5-600 shots out of
    a pair of them, then?

    Maybe, IF you only ever take soft focus pictures on a sunny day. However
    there is NO way you could take most of my usual pictures with an old Box
    Brownie, Instamatic, 110, disk camera, Polaroid, or in fact most of what has
    been sold to "Joe average" over the last century, no matter how good you
    are!
    Knowing their limitations, a good photographer simply doesn't attempt to use
    them.

    When an alkaline is down to 1.2 to 1.3v, it is incapable of supplying any
    useful current, and actually drops *well* below that under attempted load.
    A fully charged rechargeable at 1.25 volts can deliver significant current,
    and does not drop much below it's unloaded voltage under load.
    Of course, your camera may have been worse than average. What was the
    temperature? Alkalines do not perform well in cold weather. They *store*
    well in cold weather, but are very inefficient under load.

    I'll say it was worse than average. It wouldn't operate below about 1.3
    volts. (don't you read?)
    Temperature was irrelevant (besides, I live in Sydney - we don't have cold
    weather.)

    I give up.
    Why don't you post again and teach me about cell nominal voltages.
