2MB wouldn't store a single raw image - are you sure you (and he) didn't
    mean 2GB?

I'm sure he meant 2 GB - I was quoting from the original message, indicated
    by the double quotes :)

There is much to be said for trying to help folks rather than being
    totally anal about trivialities.

You are right ray, though you seem to be the one that initiated this "side"
    thread with...

In any case, I agree with you. Enough trivialities. Last post on this...

Personally, I have nothing for or against nikon. I have a minolta film slr
and am thus attracted to the sony alpha. I have had good experiences with
Kodak - currently using a Kodak P850 because it fits my needs better than
a dslr. I do not even consider canon - because of their total lack for all
things Linux - when they support Linux, I will consider canon - but not
until. I also eschew fuji because of their past business practices. Hate
has nothing to do with it.

Irrelevant. The best camera is the one in your hand that you can operate
when an opportunity for a photo presents itself

Some of my best photos were taken with a Kodak Instamatic with 126 film.
For health and safety reasons no one will ever be able to get where I
did to take those photos 20 years ago. I was lucky when I took them at
the time (young and stupid :)

The "best camera" a friend of mine has is a Zenith. It lets him take
photos where a Canon of Nikon would get you arrested in some parts of
the world. BTW He also has an awesome array of Nikon kit too. .

I recently saw a letter in a magazine from someone saying he "needed" to
upgrade from his Nikon D70s as it was not good enough to enter
competitions with. Well I have just won a national completion using a
    D70s

Blaming the tools always was the sign of a poor workman. Quoting pure
numbers like pixels is pointless. For most things 6Mp is plenty .
Actually another friend of mine say he can see no point in upgrading
past about 10-12MP. (His other camera is a surveillance satellite :)

    Truly funny there Chris.

There has always been I would say anger instead of hate for those who chose
another name brand then the one they own. Canon vs Minolta and so on.

Like everything else, they are all tools and its to each his own. What
works for one might not work for another.
But to get angry over it makes no sense. We are here because we all have
something in common and thats Photography. No matter what the tools are,
its the results that count. There was also slightly less anger when it came
to Darkroom equipment way back when and one preferred one name brand over
another but nobody got bent out of shape over it like these people do now
over DSLR vs P&S, or in those days it was SLR vs Range Finder. The argument
    never stops. LOL

    Wrong on both counts.

His profession is digital imaging in the defence sector.
He is not a photographer and uses a 35mm for fun.
