The focus confirmation beep on my Nikon D70 is barely audible. I can
hold the camera next to my ear and can just hear it. Does anyone else
have this problem, or is it common to the D70?

  2. I'm practicing with a Nikon N75 getting ready the D70. I can't hear the
    beep either.

I never understood why it is needed. On my D70 it is off, so I can't hear
anything, even very close to my ear. ;-)

If you don't get a definitive answer here try asking yourself if
the problem is with the camera or if it is with you? Test it on
several people (preferably young, that haven't yet had their ears
damaged at rock concerts). If they all can hear the conf. beeps
clearly, it's not the camera. If they have trouble hearing it, then
there's something wrong with the specific camera or with its design.
My own hearing, BTW, is such that the alarms from most digital
watches or radios usually can't be heard unless I put them close to
my ear and twist and turn them to just the right angle. Other than
this I'm not aware that I have any kind of hearing deficiency.
I'd have no problem hearing the alarms if their frequency was
user-adjustable. Lower these problem alarms by one octave and the
sound would be loud and clear.

Well, OK. If seriously, I do know that some people, espesially older/over
middle age (as you prfer ;-) gradualy lose ability to hear the highest
tones. It's not any kind of hearing defficiency, it's physiology. The age
when it begins is variable, and no one usually notices as it doesn't hapen
during 1-2 days, it lasts perhaps during half of life. One can begin to noce
only in a case one has to deal with certain frequencies, as you now with
D70. Perhaps this can explain something, if you are in this age category.

No problem with hearing the beep. Sound and clear.

Age? Well, to be honest: 48.

No problem hearing the beep on my camera. Doesn't even get quieter as the
battery runs down. The camera shuts down before the beep gets weak.
