Nikon Deluxe Camera Bag

I know this is a crazy question, but I just received a Nikon Deluxe
Camera Bag and there is a short strap included with some velcro sticky
on one side of it around the center. Then there are some triangular
shaped "D-Loops" about 2/3 way down the back of the bag itself. The
short strap connects nicely to those two mystery loops, but once in
place, it appears to be totally without function or reason. I know
that I have to be missing something. Who will step up to the plate
and tell me why I am an idiot?

It is alleged that claimed:

It's a hand strap. Loop it over the top of the bag for use, push it
over the back edge to get into the bag (there's just enough slack). The
long one is the shoulder strap. Both can be on at the same time,
that's what I'm doing.
