Nikon FM2N + SB-20 sync cord question

I have a simple requirement. I want to the ability to remove the SB-20
speedlight from the hotshoe of my Nikon FM2N and handhold it, or mount
    it on a tripod.

I am getting confused as to what type of cord or connector I need. PC
sync cord connectors look fairly standard/generic to me (from searching
    on ebay).

But I'm also seeing references to Nikon-specific cords, or things like
the "Nikon SC-17 off camera TTL sync cord - Allows for full TTL control
of Nikon flashes off camera on a bracket"

The SB-20 has a TTL setting. I *think* the FM2N supports TTL flash
control. So, does that mean to get the flash connected with TTL working
I need to buy a specific adapter? - Or will one of these generic PC sync
    cords do the trick?

    Thanks for any help,
    John.

  2. You can use the SC-17 to get the flash off the camera but the FM2n does NOT
support TTL flash operation so that part of its functionality is moot. If
you can get a good price on one then great but it does more than your camera
    supports.
