Nikon Service Repair Estimates

My equipment is at Nikon Service-California and they sent me the estimates
for the three items. How close are these estimates to the actual final
bill in your experience?

Their standard estimate seems to be $300 for anything, yes?

 

The average is $293.00 so you got it right. The teleconverter was the only
thing visibly damaged, while the telephoto lens and camera appeared
undamaged. I just don't want a big surprise when I get the bill.

The only estimate I got was for a dropped/smashed-on-one-corner D70 body
& they later revised that to a 'cannot fix' when I gave the go on it.
I've heard the $300 quote more than once from others, but I'm sorry I
cannot confirm the actual bill on actual repairs. I have heard of at
least a handful of Nikon repairs performed for much less than $300 but
cannot vouch for the details.

 

Under California consumer protection laws, they are obliged to inform
you if costs for repair will exceed their original estimate before
they go ahead with that repair. I bet if you turn down the repair
they'll send it back to you at no cost to yourself.
