I have been closely following the development of non-SLR digitals for a
while and came across this review of Samsung's new Digital aimed at the top
    of the market. http://www.dimagemaker.com/article.php?articleID=376
Form your own opinions of course but the lens is what attracts me. It seems
as if the manufacturer's with no market share have all gone to using lenses
from 'old world' lens designers. I had hoped the images from this camera
would have done justice to such a reputable lens maker but it seems like
Kodak, Samsung has relied on bought technology for image quality.

I believe that Samsung own the Schneider-Kreuznach company.

I think they also used to own Rollei.

  4. What is wrong with buying quality if you don't make it yourself?
Did you ever complain about Holden using Lucas lights because they were the
best? (I know I'm showing my age)

    Kodak and Samsung use Schneider
    Sony use Zeiss
    Panasonic use Leica

    I say good on them!

    true... from some time ago.
Samsung is comprised of 2 mojor components (photo related) Samsung
Techwin (cameras) and the mobile division.

Much of the newer technology for cameras is being used by the mobile
division... however it has not made it iinto their digital cameras....
who seem to have lost the plot ehrn it comes to what the market is after.

The beginning of this year saw a merge between the mobile division and
Samsung Techwin.... with any joy, their digi cameras should start
getting a lot more interesting real soon..... hey, they have a7
megapixel mobile on the market in Japan.

unfortunately it is often only the name they use..... and an approval stamp.

usually it's the german manufacturers who get the real benefit... since
the Japanese companies have the electronics knowledge. Just look at
every foray into electronics by Leica.... a problematic M5 for
starters.... the nightmares with the R-digital back for more recent
examples (development of... not the final product)
