It's an easier task than dealing with the even bigger boulder a little
    bit further down the hill.

I wonder if there is any more of them?

Looks like this was not the first time that something like that happened.
See the second picture: In the foreground is another boulder that seems even
larger, where they built the vineyard around it.

In the batch of shots in the SF Chronicle it is obvious that all three
came down at the same time. Two went through the barn and gouged the
same track until the leading boulder came to a stop. The one following
hit the one which had stopped and rolled to the side. They didn't build
the vineyard around it, you can see broken vines and trellises around
both, and a track with lighter damage can be seen from where they hit
to where the following one came to a stand still.
You might say that it was a decent billiards carom shot.

There are _four_ rocks. One that was already in place and that the
vineyard was built around, two that came down near it, and a fourth that
    stopped almost touching the farmhouse.

So that is the reason they built the dirt road *around* it?!?

And the cut line: "The boulder came to rest near a rock that had been
    dislodged many years previously"

That's why I wondered if there even more of them to come. The farm
house seems to be in the bowling alley and the local power supply is
    at risk also.

    : BINGO!

I think that earlier incident was mentioned in the article. I don't recall
that they said how long ago it happened. It would certainly give a resident of
the house something to think about while trying to get to sleep.
