NTSC-PAL Conversions and Flicker

I have converted some video from NTSC DV to PAL DV with AE and I have
looked at both on a monitor that can switch between the two. I am
quite surprised at the flicker in the PAL version.

By what I have read - there seems to be a lot of problem with PAL
flicker and it seems to be quite a jolt to people use to seeing NTSC.
But I am having a hard time judging whether or not my conversion is up
to snuff. (Not broadcast standards but to an average viewer)

How much flicker is there in a PAL anyways and how do you judge the
    amount acceptable..

I don't want this to be a debate on NTSC versus PAL quality because we
have had too much of this anyways, but I am having a hard time
figuring out what would be acceptable. The flicker would NOT be
    acceptable in the NTSC world.

I have tried this with AE and Procoder and get about the same results.
There is no field dominance issues either - it is strictly flicker.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to judge the amount of flicker that
    is acceptable in PAL.

    Thanks in Advance

  2. Many people from NTSC-land who are used to 30FPS
video find the 25FPS PAL video to have noticable flicker.

  3. Flicker is independent of motion, so if you get the same amount of
flicker on a still frame then it's PAL flicker and you'll have to live
with it. If not, then you have a problem...

Thanks for this - it's the source I used before I put up this question
    in the forum.

As they say great minds think alike, .......................and weak
    ones seldom differ.

My guess, I have it okay for flicker and I just need some PAL eyes to
    review it.
