I'm looking to see if there are any NYIP students in Ottawa.

    I'm finishing Unit 2, just received Unit3.

If there are enough of us in and around Ottawa, maybe we can meet,
    share stories, etc.

clean up the following to contact me by email:

I was looking at their program...has anyone here taken it? Was it worth
it? What did you think? I'm presently taking a photography course in a
community college and I really like it. I just think that I'm going to
    want more once it's over.

I have about 30 years experience, have taught photography and
exhibited. I'm taking the NYIP course and really enjoying it.

It is helping me to think (and re-think) about a lot of aspects of
photography, and to be a more disciplined photographer.

I signed on after a lot of thinking about it and looking for negative
and positive reviews of the course. I don't recall having found even
one negative review and believe me, the Internet is full of negative
    reviews of almost everything.

The instructors generally provide very detailed feedback about the
work you submit. The feedback is designed and worded to help you
become a better photographer. So, your photos are analized in detail
and the good points are discussed as well as things you may have
    missed.

Assignments become increasingly complex as the course progresses, but
they are based on three guidelines:

    1) Know your subject
    2) Focus attention on your subject
    3) Simplify

There is a very active MSN group dedicated to students, grads and
people who are thinking about becomming students of NYIP. It is not,
in any way supported, directed or otherwise influenced by NYIP.
Members share their ideas and offer positive criticism and
encouragement of one another's work Members post their assignment
photos; sometimes before, sometimes after submitting them and get some
    really good advice.

Browse to: http://groups.msn.com/NYIPRoundtablePart2 and have a look
    around.

For me, the course is well worth the price.

I also have about 30 years experience, and the NYIP course is really good.
Many times we think we know everything, but this course lets you know how
much you don't. The key, as said below is it teaches you to THINK not just
    shoot.

There is an MSN group for NYIP and there is a newsgroup
alt.photography.schools.nyip but no one goes there.

    Hope that helped.
