Obit on Irving Penn

Discussion in 'UK Photography' started by Marty Freeman, Oct 17, 2009.

  1. BBC Radio 4 did an obituary for Irving Penn on "Last Word" yesterday, you
    can listen to it here:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00n5vt7

    Synopsis:
    ---------------------------
American photographer who has died aged 92

Irving Penn shot his first Vogue cover more than 65 years ago and was
still working until his recent death at the age of 92. He created
beautifully lit, intimate portraits of writers, artists and models as well
as still life and cigarette ends. His subjects were often posed standing
within a stark, angled backdrop to create a sense of tension and drama.

John Wilson talks to photographer Annie Leibovitz and to Penn's long time
friend and Manhattan gallery owner, Peter MacGill.

Irving Penn was born 16 June 1917 and died 7 October 2009

: Thanks. However, I'd rather read about Penn (see post of mine last
: week) than listen to audio or see video on such subjects. I receive
: lots of links to youtube and such that explain this or that. Takes more
: time and bandwidth than an written article takes to read.

Then your course of action is clear: don't download it.

BTW, you don't need our permission to not read (or listen to) any given
article. You can make this decision on your own without involving us at all.
Nor is it necessary to apologize to the OP if you decide not to listen to a
video to which he's provided a link. Some might even say that doing so is a
    waste of bandwidth.

: Geez Coe when your knee jerked and slapped you in the head were you
: really compelled to write that claptrap? I'm sure if Marty took
: objection to what I said he could write for himself without your petty
    : intervention.

Hit you in the ego, did I? Sorry, I didn't really mean to cause you any pain.
Take two aspirins, and call 911 in the morning.
